INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The mother of a 3-year-old child who drowned in 2013 was found guilty of aggravated manslaughter on Sept. 30, according to court records.
Summer Marie Stiles, now-36, of Vero Beach, was remanded back to the Indian River County jail while she awaits sentencing. Sentencing is currently scheduled for November.
Stiles was arrested in November 2013, several months after her 3-year-old son, Dakota Stiles, drowned in the family pool in July 2013. Prior to the drowning, Stiles has been charged with one count of child neglect after Dakota was found unattended in the neighbor’s yard.
Stiles’ case went before a jury earlier this week. The jury was given the case at 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday. They returned their guilty verdict just before 8 p.m. the same day, according to court records.
