SEBASTIAN — Sebastian police have arrested a home health aide accused of altering checks to reflect $1,000 more than her weekly contract payment.
Rosemarie Delapaz, 50, of Fort Pierce, now faces three charges of felony grand theft and three charges felony uttering forged instrument.
A Sebastian man called police from the bank when he discovered his caregiver of four months had altered three of her weekly checks to reflect a payment of $1,600 instead of $600, the arrest report shows.
The bank confirmed the defendant had successfully cashed three checks for $1,600.
The defendant allegedly told police she was experiencing financial trouble and changing the check amounts was a “simple solution” to her problem, according authorities.
Delapaz was arrested in Fellsmere in July 2012 for worthless checks valued more than $150, according to a prior booking report.
She is being held in the Indian River County Jail in lieu $12,000 bond.
