INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has found a “skimmer device” at an ATM.
Sunday, an observant bank customer noticed two white males placing a suspicious device on an automated teller machine (ATM) at the Bank of America located on State Road 60 near 58th Avenue, according to a press release.
The customer called the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and deputies immediately removed the device, identifying it as a credit card skimmer. Other banks around the county were checked for similar devices but none have been located yet.
On Monday, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office recovered photographs of the two men suspected of placing this device and are asking for help to identify them.
“We need your help to identify the men responsible for placing this skimmer,” said Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar. “This case started because of an observant citizen. With your help, we may be able to close this and other cases involving credit card skimmers. The citizen did the right thing by not approaching them and calling law enforcement.”
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has no reason to believe the device captured any customer information prior to being removed. Please take a look at the photos of the device and always be aware when using automated teller machines that are open to manipulation.
