Shirley J. Shaver, 89, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully in the family’s home on Sept. 13, 2015 with family members by her side.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Robert K. Shaver; children Robert (Phyllis) of Vero Beach, Michael (Sharon) of East Peoria, Ill., Janice King (Dean) of Quincy Ill., William (Mary) of West Palm Beach, James (Cindy) of Washington, Ill.; sisters Beverly Crebo, Madeline Brewer and Norma Bailey of East Peoria, Ill.; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sisters Flossie Hocking, Marie Talkington, Virginia Rodamsky and brother William Myers.
Shaver was a devoted wife and mother who was passionate about traveling, reading and teaching all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to swim, some in their swimming pool, others in some of the 35 states the family visited on vacations over the years.
She also traveled extensively with her husband, Robert, throughout the Caribbean and Mexico and often shared many fond memories of three vacations spent in the Hawaiian Islands.
Shaver was deeply spiritual and passed along many of life’s lessons to family and friends, among them the importance of honesty, integrity, responsibility and charity. She reveled in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express our deepest thanks to Shirley’s daughter, Janice and granddaughter, Danielle for caring for her in her time of need, and to VNA Hospice for their respect and compassion.
