Milo Richard ‘Mike’ Novotny, 84, Vero Beach

Milo Richard ‘Mike’ Novotny, 84, of Vero Beach, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 16, 2015, at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles.

He is survived by his devoted wife and partner, Dawn; five children; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many loyal friends. He was also a proud friend of Bill W. for more than 31 years.

Novotny was born on Dec. 18, 1930, in Chelsea, Iowa.

He graduated from the University of Iowa dental school and passed his Florida board examinations in 1959. He continued to practice dentistry until his retirement in 2013. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

Novotny was a passionate golfer and won SunLand Golf & Country Club’s Club Championship nine times, the Super Seniors Championship nine times, Member Championship nine times and Member Guest Championship three times.

Additionally, he won the 1989 PNGA Senior Men’s Amateur Championship and played in the 1989 USGA Senior Amateurs in Houston, Texas.

He was also an accomplished vocalist and an avid participant in local thespian productions.

Novotny married the love of his life, Dawn DeLisa Novotny, in 1976. They moved from Orlando to Sequim in 1987.

A memorial service celebrating his life will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach; www.strunkfuneralhome.com.
