INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Indian River County man was arrested for battery Wednesday morning after a woman accused him of grabbing her by the throat and throwing her to the ground when they crossed paths while walking their dogs in their neighborhood.
Alexander Curtis, 32, of the 5800 block of Glen Eagle Lane, Vero Beach, now faces one misdemeanor battery charge.
The victim was out exercising her dog with her boyfriend around midnight Wednesday when the couple encountered Curtis also walking his dog.
According to the arrest report, the victim and her boyfriend were in a polite conversation with Curtis about their respective dogs when Curtis’ demeanor changed without warning.
Curtis allegedly threw his cell phone and began making statements that the couple did not belong in the neighborhood and demanded to know what they were doing there.
He then grabbed the woman by the neck and pushed her to the ground, causing an abrasion on her elbow, the arrest affidavit shows.
Law enforcement responded in regards to the incident, but after authorities left the area, the defendant showed up at the victim’s residence and gave an apology.
He told her he knew he was going to have to deal with the consequences, she later reported to authorities. Curtis also told her that he had not been taking his medication and gave her an address she could relay to authorities.
Police responded to the address and arrested Curtis, who the victim identified.
Curtis was released Wednesday morning on $500 bond.
