Theodore J. Shanley, 78, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Hospice House in Vero Beach on Sept. 13, 2015.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Oct. 12, 1936, and resided in Massapequa Park before retiring to Vero Beach.
He was married to Margaret “Peggy” (Joyce) Shanley for 54 years and is survived by his children Patty and Glenn Reyer, Irene Shanley, Cathy Shanley and Doug Woodby. He has six grandchildren, Billy, Erin and Megan Reyer and Caiti, Hunter and Teddy Woodby; great-granddaughter Raelynn Bourbon; his siblings Joan Blair, Mary Quillen, Diane Shanley, Bob and Jane Joyce and Pat and Jim O’Keefe; and his four legged best friend Sullivan.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Harry and Marie Shanley and his brother Harry Shanley.
Shanley was a Sergeant in the US Marine Corp. He also served for 26 years in the FDNY, and retired as a Lieutenant. He is a member of The Knights of Columbus and a lifetime honorary member of the Vero Beach Jaycees.
The Family will receive friends at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, 7550 26th Street, Vero Beach, Florida at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015.
