Arrests expected soon after 2 grow houses shut down

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Authorities expect to make drug-related arrests soon after two search warrants served in Gifford and north Sebastian Wednesday yielded nearly three pounds of marijuana and marijuana cultivation equipment, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.

“With children returning to school, our focus is on taking drugs off the street that may ultimately end up in the hands of children. In this case, the seized marijuana was packaged and ready for sale. We will continue our mission with an emphasis on those who distribute drugs to our youth,” Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar said in a statement.

Detectives with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and the Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) Team executed the warrants Wednesday – one in the 3800 block of 44th Place in Gifford and one in the 14000 block of North Indian River Drive in northern Sebastian.

The first location netted more than two pounds of marijuana wrapped in various size baggies according to weight, including 75 small baggies ready for sale.

This is the third narcotics related search warrant conducted at this residence this year, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The second search yielded marijuana cultivation equipment including lights, fans, and large plastic pots were seized along with 384 grams (.85 pounds) of marijuana, three grams of hash oil, smoking devices, and a digital scale.

Detectives will continue the investigation into these two residences and their occupants and expect to make arrests in the near future, according to the official statement.
