David Mason Mixter, 92, Vero Beach

David Mason Mixter, 92, of Vero Beach, formerly of Darien, Conn., passed away on Aug. 28, 2015, following a short illness.

Mixter was the husband of Stephanie Leonard Mixter, who predeceased him in 2009, and is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carol Baldwin. Family include daughter Valerie (Mrs. Guy O., III) Dove of Middleburg, Va., sons Peter J. Mixter of New York City and Stephen L. (Elizabeth) Mixter of Naples, Fla., and the late David Ives Mixter who was lost in Vietnam. He had seven grandchildren, Dorothy Cavanagh Stout, Carroll J. Cavanagh III, J. Tyler, Peter J. Jr., William G., David W. and Laura E. Mixter and two great-grandchildren.

He was born in Boston, Mass. in 1922, the son of Dr. William Jason and Dorothy (nee Fay) Mixter. He was educated at the Dexter School, Brookline, Mass., and Milton Academy, Milton, MA, and graduated from Yale College, New Haven, Conn., with the class of 1945.

Mixter served in the US Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict at a rank of Captain. After his service to our country he began his career with the Benton & Bowles and Ted Bates & Company advertising agencies in New York City and was a partner in and Vice Chairman of North Castle Partners in Greenwich, Conn.

He was proud to serve on the boards of numerous charitable organizations, including starting in 1960 the Hospital for Special Surgery, New York City, of which he became a Life Trustee and the Indian River Medical Center Foundation in Vero Beach. He was a member of The Yale Club of New York City, Wee Burn Country Club in Darien and Riomar Country Club in Vero Beach.

The family is so grateful for the caring love provided by his caregivers over the years, especially Pat Horton, Norma Morgan and Jacob L. Pryor.

No services are planned for Vero Beach. Memorial contributions may be made locally to Harvest Food & Outreach Center, 1360 28th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960 or Indian River Medical Center Foundation, 1000 36th Street, Vero Beach, Florida 32960. Interment will be in Darien, Conn.
