Almon H. Johnston, 95, of Vero Beach, passed away on Aug. 29, 2015, at his home.
He is survived by his daughter Kathy L. Carter of Vero Beach; son Daniel A. Johnston of Nashville, Tenn.; sister Ethel Spinello of Connecticut; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Henrietta O. Johnson in 2001, a companion Rosemary Squassoni who he met in 2003, a son David Johnston and a stepson Wesley A. Buckingham.
He was born in Easton, Maine and moved to Vero Beach in 1968 from Auburn, Maine.
Johnston was a veteran of WW II, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Upon moving to Vero Beach he began working for Templeton Roof and Truss Company before joining Piper Aircraft Manufacturing. After several years he began working for the City of Vero Beach where he worked for Chief Sam McCall maintaining traffic controls. He attended Ryanwood Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church in Vero Beach and was a devoted and honored past member of the Vero Beach Shuffleboard Club.

The family will receive friends 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a service celebrating the life of Almon Johnston beginning at 11 a.m., Rev. Randy Bryant of Ryanwood Fellowship Free Will Baptist Church officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Fort Pierce.
