James Allen McKinney, 91, Vero Beach

James Allen McKinney, 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on Aug. 21, 2015.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jo “Mig” McKinney of Vero Beach; daughters Christine Sheppard (Robert) of London, Ohio and Cynthia Diolazo (Edward) of San Ramon, Calif.; son James Edward McKinney (Kathryne) of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

McKinney was born in Aurora, Ind. son of the late James and Agnes McKinney. He had lived in Vero Beach the last 24 years coming from Columbus, Ohio.

He was a veteran, having served his country honorably in the US Naval Air Corps. He retired as a former business owner of McKinney Metal Tool & Supply in Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of Community Church of Vero Beach.

McKinney attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity where he also met the love of his life, Betty Jo, better known as “Mig.” He and Mig loved water and snow skiing and boating.

He was President of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Scioto Country Club in Columbus and Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio. He was also a member of The Moorings Yacht and Country Club.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at the Community Church in Vero Beach.
