Gilbert Perry, 83, of Sebastian, passed away on Aug. 17, 2015, at VNA Hospice, due to complications of a stroke.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara (Dutra) Perry; sons Randall of Sebastian and Bradley (Sherry); and cherished grandchildren Camren and Amber of Pascoag, R.I.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Perry was born in Pawtucket, R.I., son of Manuel and Francelina Perry. He was predeceased by eight brothers and four sisters, being the youngest in the family.
He was employed by the railroad for 37 years and retired as an Amtrak conductor in 1994.
He was a US Air Force veteran of four years, and served for a year in Korea.
Perry was a resident of Rhode Island before moving to Florida in 1995.
He was member of the Sebastian Italian American Club and was an active member of the Sebastian Elks Lodge 2714, where he was a involved in the pool league for 18 years.
Perry was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He was a jack-of-all-trades, and was never daunted by any challenge he faced in life. He will be truly missed by his family and friends, and forever missed by his loving wife.
Proud of his sons, he was a devoted family man and loving husband.
His family would like to thank all the diligent staff who cared for him during his hospital and rehab stays.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elk’s Lodge #2714, Sebastian, on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 3 p.m. A service will be held in Rhode Island at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gilbert’s name to The Sebastian Elks #2714 or VNA Hospice House.
