David R. Langfitt, Sr., 96, of Vero Beach, passed away on Aug. 5, 2015, at Harbor Chase of Vero Beach.
He is survived by his sons, David R. “Skip” Langfitt, Jr. and John R. Langfitt, both of Vero Beach; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Laverne E. Langfitt, earlier this year.
Langfitt was born in Pittsburgh, Penn., and has lived in Vero Beach since 1952 coming from Lakeland, Florida.
He was a United States Navy veteran having served as Lieutenant Commander on three ships during World War II in the Pacific Campaign.
Langfitt was a graduate of Washington and Jefferson College where he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree. He went on to the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree and ultimately earned a Master’s degree from Florida Southern College, Lakeland, Fla.
He had a long and successful career as a realtor and land developer in Indian River County and was instrumental in the development of many projects in Vero Beach and the surrounding county. He was a member of the Indian River County Board of Realtors.
Langfitt was a member of Community Church, Vero Beach and served on their Board of Deacons. He was very active in the community as well and was a member of the Vero Beach Elks Lodge 1776, Vero Beach Exchange Club and served as an instructor with the Power Squadron. He was a member of the Riomar Bay Yacht Club, Vero Beach Country Club, and the Quail Valley Club.

A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 14, 2015 in the Chapel at Community Church, Vero Beach with the Rev. Earl Morgan officiating.
