Two companies look to bring jobs to Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce disclosed they are working with two firms interested in locating to the county and creating jobs for local residents.

Helene Caseltine, Economic Development Director with the Chamber, has met with the principals of Algae to Omega on several occasions since mid-June, providing them with business intelligence data and introducing them to County Commissioners and county staff. Algae to Omega is currently based in South Florida but has outgrown its existing location. Along with intensive and ongoing research, the company produces nutraceuticals and other health-related products for human and animal consumption. They are in the process of purchasing the 99-acre former Correctional Institute in the south end of the county.

“We are thrilled to have Algae to Omega consider Indian River County as their new home. The principals are very forward-thinking, with a focus on sustainability, health and nutrition, along with a ‘re-use and recycle’ mind frame,” Caseltine said. “Much of the feedstock needed for their operations can be derived from the waste stream of existing sources within the region,” she added. The company estimates a $20 million capital investment, and anticipates creating 30-40 new jobs. The CEO expects the company to be fully operational by late 2017.

A second prospective company is also considering Indian River County as a location for a small outbound call center operation. The yet-to-be-named firm, based in the Baltimore area, is adding to its existing U.S. locations. They anticipate hiring 20 workers.

“With a relatively small staff, their office space needs are pretty flexible. With the help of our local realtors, I’ve provided the CEO a number of location options throughout the county that have broadband capacity, as per their requirements,” said Caseltine. The company expects to be fully operational by mid-2016.

The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce is the County’s designated agency for economic development. The Chamber supports all economic development efforts providing additional private sector funds and resources, as well as overhead for programs and services.
