INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Ryan Albrecht, the 36-year-old husband of Gina Albrecht who was convicted of manslaughter and fraud last week, was sentenced Thursday on violation of probation stemming from April 2014 felony charges.
Albrecht, who had lived in the Indian River Shores home of 81-year-old victim George May with wife Gina Albrecht and their daughters, was not a charged in the manslaughter case. But he did go to jail in July 2014 as part of a plea deal on grand theft and perjury charges as well as giving false information to obtain public assistance.
Both Albrechts were charged with not declaring money obtained from May and his estate when applying for food stamp benefits. Gina Albrecht has yet to be tried on her charges related to the food stamp benefits as that case is on hold pending her Sept. 9 sentencing in the manslaughter case. Prosecutors expect that she might seek a plea deal on those lesser charges rather than face another trial.
Judge Robert Pegg on Thursday sentenced Ryan Albrecht to two 364-day concurrent sentences and gave him credit for the 207 days he’s already been in the Indian River County Jail.
Set to be released in early November, Ryan Albrecht is listed as unemployed and homeless. Last year he claimed indigent status and was assigned a public defender, though Gina Albrecht had a private defense attorney, Bobby Guttridge in her corner during the six-day manslaughter trial.
Previously, Ryan Albrecht had been arrested on possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana in October 2012 when police served a search warrant on the couple’s Vero Highlands home in conjunction with May’s death, but those charges were subsequently dropped.
