INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Police arrested one male and one female in connection to an armed robbery authorities say occurred in mid-July after the victim ordered a home massage.
The victim reported two women arrived as his apartment together at approximately 6:40 p.m. July 14 after he ordered the service online.
One woman, now identified as 19-year-old Kaitlin Poppell, provided him a massage in exchange for $80 before leaving the apartment. The second woman left the apartment before the massage was over, according to the arrest report.
The unknown woman returned to the victim’s apartment around 11:50 p.m. the same night and asked to use the bathroom, the report states.
While the woman was in the bathroom, the victim saw the front door was left ajar. He opened it to find a man standing in the doorway.
The male, now identified as 28-year-old Shane Ladd, demanded money from the victim and engaged the victim in a physical altercation, according to the report.
The victim’s roommate heard the commotion from his bedroom and came to the victim’s aid. At that time, Ladd pulled out a gun and started to wave it toward the victim and his roommate before fleeing the scene, authorities said.
Detectives recovered a magazine from a firearm in the foyer of the victim’s residence, according to the arrest affidavit.
On Aug. 5, authorities made contact with a female believed to be an associate of Ladd through another website advertisement. The unnamed associate was detained by police after authorities say she offered an undercover detective a sexual favor in exchange for money. Police also detained Ladd who acted as the woman’s driver.
Police made contact with Poppell who told police she was present during the July 14 robbery and provided Ladd with information about the victim during the planning of the robbery, according to the arrest report.
Both Ladd and Poppell have registered addresses at 6370 33rd Street in Vero Beach.
Poppell faces felony charges including armed robbery with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.
Ladd faces felony charges including felony armed robbery with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, and burglary of a dwelling, structure, or conveyance with assault and battery while armed.
They are both being held in the Indian River County Jail without bond.
