Gerard Augustine, 99, Vero Beach

Gerard Augustine, 99, of Vero Beach, passed away on Aug. 3, 2015, at his home.

He was born and raised in Manhattan, N.Y.

He lived in Vero Beach since 1981 having come from River Vale, N.J. He spent his young years performing as a violinist and string bassist on the Broadway scene and across the country in shows, recordings and musical shorts. Later, he spent five years in the Army during WWII. He served in Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, Southern France, Alsace and Germany.

He returned to his family and fiancé Evelyn in November of 1945 and married Evelyn on Dec. 9, 1945. Widowed in 2009, he is survived by daughter Marilyn and her husband Tom Bush and several cousins, nieces and nephews. His son Kenneth was lost in 2013.

Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Indian River County, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL, 32960 or the . Mass will be offered at Saint John of the Cross Church, 7550 26th St, Vero Beach, FL on Friday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. A reception and remembrance will be held at 2:30 P.M. at the Isles of Vero Beach, 1700 Waterford Dr., Vero Beach.
