Carl Edward Ward, 98, Vero Beach

Carl Edward Ward, 98, of Indian River Estates in Vero Beach, passed away on July 30, 2015.

He is survived by his children, Carolyn W. Demmery and Carl E. Ward, Jr.; three grandchildren, R. Ross Fort, Carl Ward, III and Elizabeth S. Ward; and two great-grandchildren, David Carl Fort and Thomson Ross Fort; and niece Mrs. David (Connie) Herr.

His wife, Beatrice, predeceased him after 59 years of marriage, in April 2000.

Ward was born in Toledo, Ohio, raised in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and had been a resident of Stamford, Connecticut before moving to Vero Beach in 1974. He graduated from the College of Wooster, Ohio in 1938 and Harvard Business School in 1940.

During World War II, Ward was a Naval Officer and served as Supply Officer in the Acorn Unit at air bases in the Solomon and Admiralty Islands in the Pacific. He was Director of International Production at Time Incorporated. He was a member of the YMCA World Services Committee and Board Member of The International Progress in Management Associates.

Ward was a member elder and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach. He was a founding member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla No. 56 of Vero Beach and a former member of the Moorings Club and Riomar Bay Yacht Club.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, in the Multipurpose Room at Willow Brooke Court, Indian River Estates in Vero Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund, 520 Royal Palm Blvd, Vero Beach, FL, 32960.
