Valerie Hancock, 73, of Vero Beach and Hendersonville, N.C., passed away on July 11, 2015, at the Elizabeth House following a courageous battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband Walter Hancock; daughter, Darian Germain (Timothy) of Sterling, Va.; son, John Basso (Carrie) of Fishers, Ind.; a step-son, Walter James Hancock (Dawn Myers) of Leesburg, Va.; and six grandchildren, Julia Germain, Robert Germain, Mia Basso, Joseph Basso, James Basso, and Jonathan Basso.
A native of Staten Island, N.Y., Hancock was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen Johnson. She is also preceded in death by a step-son, Russ Andrew Hancock.
Hancock worked for the Florida school system, before retiring in 1994. She was a summer resident of Hendersonville; and enjoyed visiting the Biltmore Estate, traveling, and taking cruises with her husband.
