Michael James O’Rourke, 69, of Vero Beach, passed away on July 29, 2015.
He is survived by his wife Dianne Bein O’Rourke; oldest son Thomas M. (Jody Thomas) O’Rourke; daughter Kathleen O’Rourke (Andrew) Harrison; son Kevin Michael (Leah Bertolotte) O’Rourke; five granddaughters, Caroline O’Rourke, Maggie, Anna and Lucy Harrison; grandson Michael Thomas O’Rourke; and a multitude of loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Raymond O’Rourke; mother, Marian Breen O’Rourke; and sister, Patricia O’Rourke Oberting.
O’Rourke was born in Philadelphia, Penn., to Raymond and Marian O’Rourke. He has been a resident of Vero Beach since 2002 and previously resided in Manhasset, N.Y.; Sterling Heights, Mich., and Wilson, N.Y.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Rifle Expert Badge. He attended Niagra University.
O’Rourke enjoyed his many years of work at General Motors’ research laboratory.
He was a lifetime member of the VFW, the Marine Corps League, General Motors Hall of Fame, and American Radio Relay League.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, 2015 at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
Services will be 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015 at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, Fla.
