Main Street Vero Beach hosts Taylor Louglin, artist of the month

VERO BEACH — Main Street Vero Beach (MSVB) is proud to host Taylor Loughlin as the Artist of the month for August. The opening reception for Loughlin’s show will be Friday, Aug. 7 from 5-8 p.m. during First Friday Gallery Stroll.

Taylor Loughlin is a figurative oil painter and emerging artist from South Florida. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Flagler College in 2011. After graduating, she moved from St. Augustine back to her home town of Port St. Lucie where she works on her newest collection of

paintings.

Her current work focuses on figures and their relationship to water. Her goal is to see how skin tones are effected by the reflective nature of water and how the image becomes abstracted in water. Loughlin is interested in the juxtaposition of realism and abstraction in one image.

Loughlin’s oil paintings have been featured at the Elliott Museum, ArtiGras Festival 2013, A.E. Backus Gallery, and the Crisp-Ellert Museum. She exhibited her first solo show at the Port St. Lucie Civic Center Gallery in 2013. Her work has been published in Palm Beach Lifestyle Magazine, the Stuart News, and the Flagler Review.

She has enjoyed volunteering for the arts with multiple organizations including the St. Augustine Art Association and the Vero Beach Museum of Art summer camps. She has also interned with Flagler College in the field of painting restoration. The program involved restoration work on the original ceiling murals done by George W. Maynard in the Flagler College dining hall.

Taylor is a current member of the Indian River Cultural and Martin County Cultural Councils.
