Ellen E. “Ellie” Mario, 61, of Vero Beach, passed away quietly on July 19, 2015, after a 15 month long battle with cancer.
She is survived by her husband Bob; brothers Michael (Heidi) Mario of Brattleboro, Vt., Bruce (Cindy) Mario of Canaan, N.H.; sister Mary Lou (Thom) Richards of Monkton, Vt.; also left behind are numerous friends, including her supportive co-workers at the Ocean Grill and most especially her endearing local family, “The Wine Gang.”
Mario was born on May 6, 1954, in Burlington, Vt., to Betty and Raymond Mario. She graduated from South Burlington High School and also the University of Vermont where she met and later married her husband of 33 years, Robert E. Stanley.
In 1977 she and Bob left Vermont in their customized “Hippie Van” to move to Texas, but wound up in Corvallis, Oregon for a year. In 1978 they again aimed for Texas, but somehow it was Vero Beach that would become their home.
Over the next four years they would vacation the entire summer affording them the opportunity to visit all 48 continuous states, camping and exploring many famous National and State Parks and also numerous Major and Minor League Baseball Stadiums. They subsequently have logged 34 minor and 14 major league ballparks.
They were fixtures at Dodgertown with season tickets both spring and summer from 1979 through 2008. She was a waitress at Gentleman Jims, Village South, the Gazebo and The Ocean Grill Restaurant until her retirement in May of 2014.
