Crash witness leads authorities to man accused of DUI, hit and run

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — An Indian River County man accused of fleeing the scene of an auto accident that resulted in injury was arrested Friday evening at his home. An occupant in the other vehicle sustained an injury to his or her leg and knee in the wreck, according to the arrest report.

Marco Garcia, 37, of the 8700 block of 97th Avenue in Vero Beach now faces charges including leaving the scene of an accident with injury and DUI with property damage or personal injury.

A witness to the two-vehicle crash occurring at the intersection of County Roads 512 and 510 on Friday just before 8 p.m., followed Garcia when he fled the scene. The witness led deputies to Garcia’s home on 97th Avenue where he was apprehended moments later.

Authorities transported Garcia to the Indian River County Jail where he was instructed through several field sobriety tests. After failing to meet the requirements of multiple field tests, Garcia consented to a breath test and blew a .145 and .142, according to the arrest affidavit.

Garcia had one prior DUI charge in 2001. He was released Saturday afternoon from the Indian River County Jail on $10,000 bond.
