VERO BEACH — One person has been arrested after a shooting that happened Friday evening during what has been classified a domestic dispute.
The shooting was reported around 9:10 p.m. in the 1800 block of 40th Ave., according to Vero Beach Police Department Spokeswoman Ofc. Anna Carden.
A call came in from a male victim who reported being shot in the hand by a female, according to Ofc. Carden. The man and a woman were both transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.
Shannon Burgess, 30, of Vero Beach, was arrested and faces charges of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to authorities.
She is being held at the Indian River County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bond. A warrant was later served to recover evidence from the scene.
The incident started as a domestic dispute, according to police. Then it turned into a fight and escalated as the victim began taking video. Burgess then went into the bedroom and got a gun, Ofc. Carden said.
The weapon used was a .22 caliber revolver, according to Ofc. Carden. One shot was fired during the incident, which went through the victim’s hand and hit Burgess in the head where bullet fragments were found. Authorities are investigating how the single bullet struck both the man’s hand and the woman’s head.
Both the victim and Burgess were treated and released.
