Michael Petriw, 93, of Vero Beach, passed away on July 18, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Petriw of Vero Beach; his sons Michael Petriw of Bristol, Conn., and Jerry Petriw (Judith) of Port Saint Lucie; his grandson Daniel Petriw of Stratford, Conn.; and a number of relatives still living in the Ukraine.
Petriw was born in the Ukraine and moved to Vero Beach more than 20 years ago from New Britain, Conn.
He retired from Textron Corporation in Newington, Conn.
As a teenager, Petriw spent four years in Germany in the Nazi prison labor camps and after the war he moved to Belgium where he worked in the coal mines for eight years prior to moving to the United States in 1956. When entering the U.S. he resided in New Britain, Conn., for a number of years before moving to Vero Beach.
Calling hours will be on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach.
