Sally Byrnes Houser, 73, Vero Beach

Sally Byrnes Houser, 73, of Vero Beach, passed away on July 7, 2015.

Her strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ became an inspiration to all whose lives she touched. Now she has returned to her heavenly home.

She is survived by her husband Ron; her sons John and Michael Byrnes; her two stepsons Paul and Ryan Houser; her grandchildren Colin, Caroline, Jack and soon to arrive Sara Cate; her brother Rick Wolff of Concord, N.H. and her sister Betsy Frey of Mendocino, Calif.

Houser was born to Richard Stanton Wolff and Rosemary Veronica Wolff (Coyle) in Norwalk, Conn., on March 15, 1942. She graduated from St. Joseph’s College and received her Master in Social Work from Barry University and her Master of Pastoral Studies from Loyola University New Orleans. She continued her spiritual work and studies at St. Thomas University. She served God and her community as a social worker and chaplain with the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) in Vero Beach.

She is blessed with two sons (John and Michael Byrnes) and four grandchildren (Sara Cate Byrnes is due in December).

Houser’s faith is the cornerstone of every part of her life and everyone felt the love of God in her presence. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate that she is at peace with God.

She was a past president of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites, a member of the Association of Christian Therapists, the spiritual director of the Center for Spiritual Care, the spiritual director of the Centering Prayer group and a member of the Prayerful Knitters.

On Friday, July 17, from 3:30 to 4 p.m. the Rosary will be prayed at the Strunk Funeral Home Chapel, 916 17th St, Vero Beach. Immediately following the Rosary, a visitation will be held in the same chapel from 4 to 6 p.m.

On Saturday, July 18, at 10 a.m. a Celebration Mass with be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 500 Iris Ln, Vero Beach.
