INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Beginning at 5 a.m., Monday, July 20, 2015, all southbound traffic along I-95 will be shifted to temporary lanes along northbound I-95 from the Brevard County/Indian River County line to south of CR 512 in Fellsmere so workers can perform drainage and roadway improvements along southbound I-95 in this area.
Once traffic shifts, there will be two lanes open in each direction and a temporary barrier wall will separate southbound and northbound traffic. Traffic will remain in this pattern for approximately six months. Please note that this schedule could be affected by weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Throughout construction, travel lanes will remain open during daytime hours. Nighttime lane closures will occur as needed Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. excluding holidays and special events. Electronic signs will provide drivers with advance notice of upcoming lane closures.
This work is being done as part of the State Road I-95 Widening Design/Build Construction Project, underway from just north of SR 60 to the Indian River/Brevard County Line. This project includes: adding one general purpose lane in each direction in the median; removing and replacing asphalt on the roadway; removing and replacing the bridges over
CR 512; reconstructing the CR 512 interchange, including entrance and exit ramps, turn lanes, traffic signals and street lights; and building a noise barrier wall adjacent to the Encore Sunshine Travel RV Resort.
Construction began in September 2013, anticipated completion of winter 2016 and will cost an estimated $50.6 million.
The Design/Build team for this project is Community Asphalt Corporation and BCC Engineering, Inc. JMT Engineering provides Construction Engineering and Inspection Services on behalf of the FDOT.
