VERO BEACH — The downtown Vero Beach post office will not be shutting its doors in a matter of months, according to the US Postal Service.
The post office’s staff mistakenly posted a notice Friday morning making the announcement that the office would be closing and moving to the KMart plaza. Later in the day, the staff took down the notice.
No new notice was posted explaining the error.
According to the USPS, only the commercial processing of mail will be leaving the 13th Avenue facility.
The erroneous notice said the office would shut down in September.
The U.S. Postal Service signed a lease with the City of Vero Beach that goes into effect on Oct. 1.
Under the new lease USPS would pay $120,744 annually in rent. Currently, USPS pays approximately $15,000 annually.
