Expansive family home features nature preserve views

Space abounds in the move-in ready family home at 6000 46th Lane in the friendly neighborhood of Emerald Estates. Listed by Dustin Haynes of Coldwell Banker Paradise for $270,000, the 4-bedroom, 3-bath, 2700-square-foot house sits on a 1/3-acre lot only minutes from the mall, schools and I-95.

“The HOA’s are fairly low in Emerald Estates. Actually they’re really low,” said Haynes. “Only $600 a year which is a good deal for any community in Vero Beach.” He also noted there is only one way in and out of the community, which gives it a safe secluded feel.

Charlie Kost, his wife and three kids built the large home back in 2004 after Charlie retired from law enforcement in NY.

“It’s a very laid back neighborhood,” said Kost, who has purchased a new home closer to downtown Vero. “They used to have a couple block parties here and there, but everybody really basically kept to themselves. We had, of course, a couple of neighbors that we really hit it off with right away, but everybody else was great as well. Never had any problems.”

Kost and his family loved the home and all it had to offer.

“The best things about the house were the three bathrooms, all that living space and definitely the pool,” said Kost.

“It has a very nice backyard area and there is a great screened-in saltwater pool with a waterfall. It backs up to a [nature] preserve which is real nice. You don’t have to worry about anyone wandering in through your backyard; the whole area behind the home is fenced-in and offers a lot of privacy. The house is located towards the back of the community where there is much less traffic.”

Kost also mentioned the added benefits to living with a preserve adjoining your back yard.

“We wanted to live by the preserve, so nobody could build behind us,” said Kost. “We like looking out at the trees and the squirrels; you get different birds just about every day. The nature I would say, is one of the main reasons we chose to build this house on this lot. And, of course, we have the screened-in deck. You can sit out there for hours. You can barbecue, swim and enjoy the outdoors, all from your back porch.”

In front, there is a big yard, a paver driveway, a two-car garage and an expansive entryway. As you enter the double doors into the home, light floods the foyer from a fanlight above the front doors.

To the left is a grand staircase leading upstairs to the bedrooms and loft area. To the right is a formal living room, perfectly situated for family gatherings on holidays and other happy occasions.

Walking straight ahead takes you into the dining room just off the large eat-in kitchen, which also features a lovely breakfast nook overlooking the nature preserve.

Just off the kitchen is a casual living space that gives the area an open-concept feel. Sliding doors lead out onto the screened-in lanai which fills the space with warm natural light.

Heading up the stairs, the tile from the first floor gives way to beautiful hardwood floors that extend into the spacious loft area.

“Rather than having that whole section closed off just above the stairs before the bedrooms,” said Haynes. “They decided to open the little family room area up so it makes it more of a loft space or a second living area upstairs, which is great.”

Three of the large bedrooms are just off the loft along with a full bathroom with a tub. On the opposite end of the second level is the magnificent master suite.

Upon entering the room, you can’t help but notice the coffered ceiling, which gives the space a very unique and open feel. A large window keeps the bedroom nice and bright. The amount of space in the master is plenty for a king-size bed and small sitting area.

The en-suite master bath features two large his-and-hers vanities, as well as a massive bathtub and a large shower.

The square footage, design and woodsy setting make this unique home a great find for any family looking for their next home. This versitle, charming house won’t last on the market long and even has its former owners are missing it already.

“We really enjoyed it,” said Kost. “With more people coming to Vero, we just wanted to get into more of the city part. Being from New York, we wanted more of the lively city feel. But the house was great… I mean I miss it, it was really a great home to raise a couple kids.”
