Orlando utility threatens to sue Vero Electric

VERO BEACH — The Orlando Utilities Commission has threatened to sue the City of Vero Beach for breach of contract unless the City halts its current effort to find a less-costly provider of electricity.

The City began soliciting bids from power suppliers in June to see if it could get electricity cheaper than what it currently purchases under a long-term contract with OUC.

OUC said if Vero Beach does not abandon this solicitation, it may seek an injunction. And it warned Vero that it might be liable for damages exceeding the $50 million penalty if it breaks its contract with Orlando Utilities.
