INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Signifying a steadfast commitment to building a stronger community through donor-driven philanthropy, the Indian River Community Foundation (IRCF) Board of Directors recently elected three new members to help lead the organization during its next phase of growth and development.
Vero Beach residents Phil Coviello, Neill Currie and Ron Edwards will each serve three-year terms on the IRCF governing board.
Coviello, a retired partner at the international law firm Latham and Watkins, LLP worked for more than 30 years as a corporate and securities attorney, managing offices in New York and London. Coviello moved to Vero Beach a few years ago and said serving on the IRCF Board is helping him understand the needs of his new community and how he and his wife can use philanthropy to help solve problems. He is a member of both Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club where he serves on the Board of Governors as Treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee.
Currie is the retired co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Bermuda-based company RenaissanceRE Holdings, one of the world’s largest providers of catastrophe reinsurance. In addition to the IRCF Board, he is also serving as a member of the Indian River Medical Center Foundation Board of Directors.
Edwards, a native of Florida and a resident of Vero Beach since 1987, spent more than 38 years in Florida’s agri-business sector. He has also been involved in several entrepreneurial endeavors throughout his career, leading him to be named Entrepreneur of the Year by Indian River State College in 2014. He is the immediate past Chairman of the Saint Edward’s School, having served as a trustee since 2002.
IRCF Chief Executive Officer, Jeff Pickering said each of the new Board member brings unique business experience, community knowledge and philanthropic interests that will add to the diversity of the Board of Directors.
“These gentleman are not only fine examples of civic leaders, but they are also well-respected businessmen who’s knowledge and expertise will guide the strategic direction of the Foundation for the good of the community,” Pickering said. “I look forward to working with them during this pivotal stage of our organization’s development.”
The Indian River Community Foundation began operating in 2008 and has since grown to hold more than $30 million in assets restricted for charitable purposes, the majority of which are held in donor advised funds.
