George B. Laffey Jr., 84, of Vero Beach and Chathamport, Mass., passed away on June 27, 2015.
He I survived by his son Keith Laffey and (Lilla) of Chatham, Mass.; daughter Donna Laffey of Wellford, S.C.; daughter-in-law Roberta Laffey of Harwich, Mass.; grandchildren Tucker Laffey and Maegen Laffey of Harwich, Mass., Seth Laffey of South Yarmouth, Mass., and Keith William Govoni of Wellford, S.C.
He is predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Winkler Laffey and son, Glenn Laffey
Laffey was born Jan. 19, 1931 in Paterson, N.J. He graduated from Colby College in Maine.
He married the love of his life, Betty in 1953.
Laffey and Betty owned and operated Camp Avalon in Chathamport, Mass., for 20 years. Camp Avalon was a sailing camp with many activities for recreation for their campers. It was more than camp, it was a group of campers learning to be their best selves under the loving direction of George and Betty. Following the operations of Camp Avalon they retired to Vero Beach.
Laffey organized the Laffey tennis group at the Moorings. He and Betty had many loving friends. As a couple, they were held in a position of great esteem by their loving family and friends, all those they loved, lived and played with throughout the years. They will be sadly missed.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family privately at home in Cape Cod.
