UPDATE: Shooting victim that was dumped, now arrested

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The shooting victim who was dumped near the Vero Beach Country Club has now been arrested after the June 24 incident.

Renard Paul, 21, of Ft. Pierce, was the man shot and now faces charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, according to Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Sgt. Eric Flowers.

Authorities are now also looking for Kadarius Powell, 21, of Fort Pierce. Powell faces charges of robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 

Authorities are continuing their investigation into a shooting that happened June 24 in Gifford that led to an injured man being dumped out of a vehicle near the parking lot of the Vero Beach Country Club.

Sheriff Deryl Loar told VeroNews.com the shooting was the result of a drug deal gone bad. He said his agency is currently questioning a couple suspects.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call of shots fired in the 4200 block of 29th Avenue in Gifford shortly after 7 p.m. June 24.

Deputies learned that several subjects armed with handguns arrived at a home in that area and a confrontation ensued.

The two suspects being questioned are from Ft. Pierce, Sheriff Loar said, adding that they had gotten lost while trying to find the hospital.

He said that the suspects dropped the injured man on 30th Street near the Vero Beach Country Club and then fled the scene.

Witnesses rushed to render aid to the man, who has not yet been identified, and called 911 to report the incident.

Emergency responders took the man to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center where he is being treated and is expected to survive.
