Ernest ‘Ed’ Heffner, 91, of Vero Beach, passed away on June 24, 2015, at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth Gene Heffner of Vero Beach; daughter Barbara H. Duran of Vero Beach; and granddaughter Amy Raphael of Boca Raton.
Heffner was born in Toledo, Ohio to the late Ebstn and Georgia (nee Riley) Heffner. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps for which he served as a pilot during WWII. In 1955 he moved with his wife and daughter to Vero Beach from Troy, Ohio where he worked for the Hobart Company in the mining industry.
After working for Hobart he briefly worked for Piper before working for the Indian River County School Board. He retired from the school board as Supervisor of Construction
Heffner was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Vero Beach and enjoyed his time fishing.
A memorial service for Ed will take place at a later date.
