Fleet Society gears up for time capsule burial

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Fleet Society has recently purchased a time capsule which is to be buried at a location yet to be determined on July 31, 2015. The capsule is to be re-opened on July 31, 2115.

The group is working with Allison McNeal of the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Division who has been assisting in securing a burial site.

The Fleet Society will be conducting a campaign to obtain input from the general public about what should be placed into the capsule. The capsule will be on display at the Fleet Society’s table at the FUN Show July 9, 10 and 11 in Orlando. It will be shown for the last time before burial at the banquet to be held at Captain Hiram’s Inn and Resort on July 30, 2015 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are available online.

A banquet program will be available to all those who attend. This program is a limited edition item. Several individuals have purchased full page ads in the program and as such they will be given the opportunity to select an item of their choice (books, letters, etc.) to put into the time capsule. This is the Fleet Society’s way of thanking sponsors for their support.

Anyone wishing to purchase an ad in the program can do so by calling (724) 344-3171.

There will be more information about the time capsule on the website in the near future.
