INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce has announced that Sophie Bentham Wood has been recognized with the prestigious Indian River County Tourism Hospitality Award. Wood is the marketing and communications director at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
Each year the Chamber’s tourism division honors a member of the community who, through their personal and professional efforts, has had a positive impact on Indian River County’s tourism industry. Allison McNeal, director of tourism, presented the 2015 Indian River County Tourism Hospitality Award to Wood.
According to McNeal “Sophie has been actively involved in visitor and tourism marketing and promotion with the Chamber’s Tourism Committee since 2012. Among her work has been her participation and assistance with group travel and meetings, destination weddings, and the cultural arts.”
During her career she has worked with leading brands in a diverse range of business sectors including financial, sponsorship, leisure, and retail. She has utilized her strong track record of brand management to help the Chamber market Indian River County. Her proven ability to deliver efficient and effective programs both locally and internationally has been effective in helping to promote tourism in our county.
In addition, Wood has volunteered with the Chamber attending visitor industry trade shows and through the Vero Beach Museum of art is a co-op advertising partner. She is an active participant in developing new ideas and initiatives to move the county’s tourism program to the next level.
“Sophie continues to be a great partner, tourism volunteer and contributor. She is very deserving of this recognition” said McNeal.
The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce represents the business community by providing services, benefits and leadership for positive growth and change. The Chamber serves as the lead organization to promote the tourism industry in Vero Beach and Indian River County, and houses a visitor center at their 1216 21st Street, Vero Beach location.
