LETTER: Reader questions unreliable Vero Electric service

To Whom it concerns:

Why is our electric service so unreliable?

We purchased our home in Central beach in March of 2015. We are renovating our home so we have not been here 100% of the time but the power has gone out at least three times in the past three months while we have been here. One of the outages lasted approximately 3-4 hours. Tonight the power was out for 90 minutes the first time and 5 minutes the second time. I went for a walk tonight to investigate and I saw a pleasant Vero Beach Electric worker in a company truck; he said the system was overloaded. I asked when FPL was coming and he said “that is a political issue but I probably do not want it.”

That has not been my experience. Our FPL service in our 1940’s era, tree-canopied neighborhood with above ground lines has been far superior to our service so far in Vero Beach/Central Beach. We have owned our home in the FPL neighborhood with mature trees and above ground lines since 2002. Rates are lower and service is far more reliable.
