President of Florida’s Democratic Women’s Club speaks in Vero Beach June 20

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Members and guests of the Democratic Women’s Club of Indian River County will hear from the president of the state organization at the June 20 luncheon meeting in Vero Beach.

Maureen McKenna, Ph.D., who has headed the Democratic Women’s Club of Florida, Inc. (DWCF) since 2013, will discuss the background of the state group, as well as the history of the National Federation of Democratic Women.

Involved in various aspects of the Democratic organization, Dr. McKenna has held numerous positions, including president of the Highlands County Democratic Women’s Club, credentials chair of the DWCF, and state legislative chair when she coordinated the DWCF’s organization’s first Tally Days. She served as DWCF first vice president before being elected to her present position.

A resident of Highlands since 2004, Dr. McKenna was raised in Western Pennsylvania but spent most of her career as a rehabilitation counselor in the Washington, D.C. area. She served many populations and, at the time of her retirement, aided veterans with service-connected disabilities as an employee of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
