INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) will once again host WaterVentures’ Mobile Learning Lab from June 8 through June 13 at its campus on CR 510.
A traveling science center, this 53-foot semi-trailer is customized to provide hands-on exhibits that educate and encourage citizens to make environmentally conscious decisions about Florida’s water resources. Indoor and outdoor Learning Lab stations cover topics ranging from Florida’s aquifers, watersheds and wetlands to the water cycle and water conservation, and much more. The Mobile Lab’s team of educators will be on hand to tailor the learning experience for all ages, from pre-schoolers to adults.
All campers taking part in the ELC’s summer programs that week plus the three branches of Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian River County will visit the lab. ELC education director Heather Stapleton said in a statement, “We have limited availability for organized groups of less than 30 if other area summer camps would like to take advantage of this unique opportunity.” Visits can be arranged by calling her at (772) 589-5050 x-106.
WaterVentures will be open to the general public on Thursday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Friday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, June 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Reservations are not necessary. Admission is free for children 12 and under and for ELC members, and the regular entry fee of $5 for all others.
