Ronald Andrew Caldwell, 78, Vero Beach

Ronald Andrew Caldwell, 78, of Vero Beach, passed away on May 17, 2015.

He is survived by his wife Janice; daughter Jane M Caldwell PHD and son-in-law Paul Hubert from Storm Lake, Iowa; son John A Caldwell and daughter-in-law Diane M Caldwell of Vero Beach; grandchildren Maura and Jeremy Leonard of Raleigh, N.C., Brianna Laramie her husband Kyle Laramie; and great-granddaughter Natasha Laramie of Port St Lucie.

Caldwell was born the son of Andrew and Pearl Caldwell in Erie, Penn. Shortly after birth they moved to Cleveland, Ohio where he grew up and met his wife Janice Wilkosky. After a year of begging, Mom gave in and married Dad on Oct. 25, 1958.

Seeing that my father was not one to waste time, my sister Jane was born in November, 1959. In December of 1959 they took a family trip to visit Vero Beach and never went back. Again in November of 1963 they gave birth to their son John.

He was a carpenter by trade and a member of the carpenters union. In the 60s and 70s he worked on many of the condominiums and hotels on the beach as well as St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant. He was part owner in Caldwell & Meeks Construction and RA Caldwell Inc. But he spent the majority of his career working for two of his friends Norman Hensick (Hensick and Sons) and Toby Hill (Hill Group) which he made their lives interesting for many years.

Retiring in 1999 gave him time to focus on his main job as Janice’s “Hunk-a-Hunk of Burning Love” which he proudly served for 57 long, hard years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 7th. Contact John Caldwell for details.
