Space Coast Symphony kicks season off with Big Band Bash June 6

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Space Coast Symphony JAZZ Orchestra kicks off the new SCSO 2015-16 performing season with a swinging summer Big Band Bash at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 6 at the Vero Beach Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th Street, 32960.

Under the direction of Stetson University’s Dr. Patrick Hennessey, the JAZZ Orchestra will perform big band favorites featuring music from the 1920s through the 1960s. Included are classics from the Big Band Era’s best known composers, including Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller.

Tickets are $20 in advance and are available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at several convenient ticket outlets, including Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches) and Madison Avenue Consignments.

Tickets at the door are $25. The performance is free for those aged 18 and under or with a college student ID. Dr. Patrick Hennessey is a musical clinician, adjudicator, educator and performer. Since moving to Florida in 2012, his performance experiences include Johnny Mathis, Jerry Lewis, the New York Tenors, the Alan Parsons Project, Celtic Thunder, and the Indigo Girls. Director of the Stetson University Jazz Ensemble, Hennessey also performs with the Melbourne Municipal Band, the Central Florida Winds and the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra.

Artistic Director and Conductor of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, Aaron T. Collins is happy to hand his baton over to veteran jazz band leader and SCSO musician, Dr. Patrick Hennessey.

“Patrick is an amazingly gifted trombone player, professor and conductor,” Collins said. “His years of experience in front of student and professional jazz musicians comes through in the authentic and swinging sound of the Space Coast Symphony JAZZ Orchestra. We’re excited to be kicking off our 2015-16 season with a jazz concert. We’ve found that audience members of all ages are connected by their love of Big Band Era jazz.”
