United Way of Indian River County welcomes new Board members

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The United Way of Indian River County has welcomed new faces to its Board of Directors. “We are proud to welcome such a dedicated group of community leaders to the United Way Board,” said Board Chair Randy Riley, “We appreciate their philanthropy and their commitment to advance the common good in Indian River County.”

Katherine (Katie) Kirk is Vice President, Legal, for Daland Corporation, a restaurant management company that manages 107 Pizza Hut restaurants in 14 states. Kirk graduated from Creighton Law School and earned her LL.M. in Taxation at the University of Miami School of Law. Alongside an extensive law career, she serves on the Political Action Committee for International Pizza Hut Franchise Holders’ Association and has served on several non-profit business Boards of Directors including Mental Health Association of Indian River County, The Willow School, and Seagull Industries for the Disabled in Palm Beach.

Jonathan Schwiering is President of Vero Insurance. A Vero Beach native, Schwiering began his insurance career in 2002 working for Ballantyne McKean & Sullivan, a brokerage firm at Lloyd’s of London. He recently received the CIC designation for Certified Insurance Counselor. Schwiering and Vero Insurance prioritize community involvement, he has served multiple years as a Division Chair for the United Way of Indian River County annual fundraising campaign.

Beth Mitchell is President of the Sebastian River Area Chamber of Commerce. She is also on the Florida Association of Chamber Professionals Board, the Indian River County Economic Development Council and chairs the Sebastian Inlet District, a special tax district board. Mitchell formerly served on the Board of Trustees for the Sebastian River Medical Center.

Martha Wendel (Wendy) O’Neil, is Vice President of the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice Foundation, Inc. Formerly, O’Neil served as Director of Institutional Development at the Appalachian School of Law and as Director of Development for the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She has served other nonprofits including the YWCA of Roanoke Valley and the Tenn-Ark-Miss Girl Scout Council.

E. Fred (Augy) Augenstein, founder of The Ad Agency, has been involved in marketing and communications on the Space and Treasure Coasts since 1985. He has deep roots in the community including work with Chambers of Commerce in South Brevard, Sebastian, Indian River, and St. Lucie Counties as well as serving on the board of the St. Helen’s Harvest Festival, Boys & Girls Club of Sebastian, and the Sebastian River High School Dugout Club. Personal honors and awards include playing basketball for Ohio State University, membership on the Columbus District Golf Association’s Championship Team from Oakhurst Country Club, and acclamations for work on the Centennial Celebration of The Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge. Augenstein, a longtime volunteer for United Way of Indian River County currently serves on the Marketing Advisory Committee, and the Jackie Robinson Celebration Game team.
