Man shot in Gifford May 17 dies from wound

GIFFORD — The shooting of a Gifford man in his car on May 17 has now become a homicide case. The 22-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries Sunday, May 24.

According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, Reginald Davis Jr., was shot while in his car by at least one person who fled the scene. A second person was also seen fleeing the area at the time of the shooting.

No arrests have been made and the Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation.

The incident occurred in the area of the 4600 block of 39th Avenue the evening of May 17. Davis was taken to Indian River Medical Center and had been listed in critical condition before he died.

“The area of this shooting is a populated neighborhood,” said Sheriff Deryl Loar at the time his agency released information about the shooting. “We know that someone out there saw something tonight that could help our detectives bring the person(s) responsible for this to justice.”

A section of 46th Street and 39th Avenue was closed to traffic while detectives processed the scene.
