Vero Beach Art Club awards $12,000 in scholarships

VERO BEACH — Each year the Vero Beach Art Club awards up to five college scholarships to graduating seniors of local high schools to continue their fine art education. This year, $10,000 was awarded to five students who were selected after submitting applications with samples of their art work judged by the Education Committee.

The Education Committee consisted of Dawn Mill, Dawn Miller, Sharon Morgan and Catherine Musham.

Student criteria was based on school performance, artistic talent, teacher recommendations and their college curriculum which required they take art based courses of study at accepted colleges and universities.

The 2015 Vero Beach Art Club Scholarships were awarded to: Emily Parks, Hugh Paul Dunbar, Lyle Michos, Samantha Howard and Devontay Green. Each student received a $2,000 award which would go to their approved school.

Another $2,000 check was donated to the Vero Beach Museum of Art towards its Summer Art Camp Scholarships which will enable at least 20 financially disadvantaged students to attend art classes this summer in the Museum’s summer art school.
