INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — There are three Memorial Day observance ceremonies planned for Monday, May 25, giving Indian River County residents options for attending and paying tribute to fallen military service men and women.
Vero Beach, Sebastian and Fellsmere will mark the day with their own ceremonies and the public is invited and encouraged to attend.
Vero Beach’s ceremony will be held at Veterans Memorial Island, located at Riverside Park on the barrier island. The observance will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The keynote speaker will be Lieutenant General Thomas G. McInerney, USAF retired. The ceremony will be given full military honors and include a parade of colors by color guards from Indian River County. Master’s Academy Fife and Drum Corp and the Vero Beach High School Band will perform. The customary wreath will be laid at the memorial of one of the honored and be accompanied by the bag pipes and ships bell. The ceremony will conclude with a rifle salute and taps by the bugler.

Fellsmere’s service will also begin at 8:30 a.m., and will be held at Lion’s Park, located on the northeast corner of County Road 512 and N. Broadway.

The final ceremony of the day will be held in Sebastian at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial at Riverview Park, 600 US 1, at County Road 512 and US 1. There will be several speakers and a wreath laying ceremony.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets as bleacher seating is limited.
