It’s obvious before one enters that the 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath home at 247 Springline Drive has a lot going for it.
For starters, it is located in the prestigious Anchor subdivision, the most upscale neighborhood in the Moorings, one of the finest club communities on Vero’s renowned barrier island.
The house has excellent curb appeal, with a curved paver driveway, lovely landscaping and an islandy, neo-Georgian exterior with handsome hip roof lines and blue Bahamian shutters.
But it is when a visitor goes through the double, dark-wood doors with a subtle stained-glass transom above that the house comes alive and reveals its great surprises.
The first of the surprises is an awesome amount of space that a street view of the house does not suggest.
There is an immediate sense of this in the foyer, which has a vaulted wooden ceiling, but it really hits home when one steps into the living room/great room that occupies the center of the house.
Anchored by a massive field stone fireplace on the left, illuminated by a sliding doors and windows and transoms overlooking the pool patio and Compass Cove beyond, the room has
a soaring vaulted ceiling lined with v-groove pine stained a light-grey, almost white-washed color that is very beachy and nautical.
The floor is an attractive and exceptionally durable pickled Mexican quarry tile, with beige and rose tones.
All of the natural textures and material – clay tile, stone and wood – give the room a warm almost lodge-like ambiance without in least detracting from its elegance.
“It has very pretty architectural features, with moldings everywhere,” says Moorings Realty Sales Company broker Marsha Sherry.
The sense of soaring space and a large environment for living continues outside on the back terrace where a two-story-high peaked roof supported by an architecturally striking branched column provides a shaded indoor/outdoor area for dining, entertaining or simply relaxing and enjoying the views of Compass Cove, which is lined with docks and beautiful boats.
“It is a larger home, just under 4,500 under air,” says Moorings agent Erika Ross. She adds that, despite its size, the house feels homey, a wonderful family environment.
She says the owners bought the house because their son was attending St. Eds, where he was on the rowing team. They are selling it because the son is now, after a stint rowing at Eton College in England, rowing for a school in Tampa.
“They need to live on the west coast now,” Ross says.
To the left of the great room is an office/den with a tray ceiling and lots of custom woodwork, that looks a bit Etonian, and the luxurious master suite, with a huge marble bathroom
and large bedroom with tray ceiling, built-ins and a gracious bow window overlooking the cove.
To the right of the great room is an updated kitchen with granite counters, solid wood cabinets, stainless steel appliances and another cathedral ceiling that adds tons of volume to the space. There is a roomy breakfast area overlooking the pool and a combination bar/butler’s pantry with a second full-size Sub-Zero refrigerator that can be closed off for catering or opened, bar style, to the great room.
On the other side of the kitchen is a fairly grand formal dining room with a deeply recessed tray ceiling.
“I would kill to have this dining room at the holidays,” says Sherry. “Of course, if someone has a lifestyle that doesn’t require a formal dining room this could be used as a family or media room. There is plenty of room to eat in the breakfast area and outside.”
Also on the first floor are a powder room, a laundry room with lots of cupboard and counter space and a door to the outside, and an oversize two-car garage that has more space than many three-car garages.
Upstairs, at the top of an elegant oak main staircase, are two more bedrooms, one with a small balcony facing the water, and a gorgeous, rather nautical blue-tiled bathroom.
The outdoor living space is as nice as the interior, with the covered lanai, pool patio and free-form saltwater pool. There is a cabana bath with a sauna, a small, nicely landscaped lawn, a set of broad shallow steps leading down to the water and an L-shaped deep-water dock with a boat lift.
Compass Cove opens into Porpoise Bay; from there, a boat owner has access to the storied Intracoastal Waterway, all of the waterside parks, restaurants, marinas and clubs along the Indian River Lagoon, and the Atlantic Ocean, via the Fort Pierce Inlet approximately eight miles to the south.
“This house is a deal,” says Sherry. “It is near the entry level price for the Anchor and it is a large move-in ready home suitable for a family or a couple. Our business has not slowed down since the end of season and we haven’t got a lot of inventory left, so now is the time to buy!”
