INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A domestic disturbance in Gifford led to a stabbing that sent one person to the hospital and another to jail early Monday.
The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call regarding a stabbing, according to authorities. Deputies responded to the 4500 block 41st Avenue where the victim, a 54-year-old man, was found covered in blood and unresponsive.
He had been stabbed in the shin, which struck an artery. Deputies also located Lakisha Warner, 38, his live-in girlfriend at the residence, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
She was transported to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office where she was interviewed about the incident.
Warner told detectives that she and the victim have had a mutually violent relationship over the past several years that culminated in Monday’s stabbing, according to authorities. Warner said that she and the victim had been out all night drinking and fighting when she went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. She proceeded to stab him one time in the left shin, according to authorities.
The victim was transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center where he is currently recovering from surgery, according to the Sheriffs Office.
Warner was arrested and faces a charge of aggravated battery. She is currently being held without bond until her first appearance.
