Florine Schlitt Whitelock Martin, 90, Vero Beach

Florine “Flo” Schlitt Whitelock Martin, 90, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2015.

She is survived by six children and their spouses, Pam (Blaine) Davis of Yarmouth, Maine, Lannes (Sunny) Whitelock of Miami, Nancy (Chuck) Guedri of Midlothian, Va., Janet Gray of Atlanta, Ga., Willard (Candace) Whitelock of Cooper City, Fla., and Wayne Whitelock of Pico Rivera, Calif. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as three stepsons and their spouses Charles (Linda) Abert of Pipersville, Penn., Robert (Diane) Meagher of Wantagle, N.Y. and John (Jude) Martin of Albany, N.Y.; sisters Dolores Barth D’Amore, Jean (Bernie) St. Pierre, brothers, John (Helen) Schlitt, Louis (Kathy) Schlitt, Robert (Joanne) Schlitt, and sisters-in-law Mary Schlitt and Marguerite Schlitt, all of Vero Beach,

She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, John Martin, and two brothers, Frank Schlitt and Ed Schlitt.

Martin was born in Vero Beach to John and Florence Schlitt, a Pioneer Family of Vero, and was the oldest of their eight children. She raised her six children in Miami Springs with husband, Willard H. Whitelock, Sr.

She retired from Eastern Airlines and loved to travel with family and friends. Martin was incredibly social and very active in community activities, which included serving as Chairman for the Miami Springs Beautification Committee and being recognized at the White House for their efforts in 1965.

After retiring in 1986, she returned to her beloved Vero Beach and family. She worked at the Ed Schlitt Coldwell Banker Agency, loved playing golf and bridge and proudly supported the Indian River Land Trust and McKee Botanical Garden. She was a member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church, Vero Beach Museum of Art, Indian River County Historical Society and Garden Club of Indian River County. She also served as a HOSTS Mentor for the School District of Indian River County.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at St. Helen Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery.
