Store robbed at gunpoint, search continues for suspect

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has released a photo of the man believed to have robbed the Advance America check-cashing store in the Ryanwood Square shopping plaza at gunpoint at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies have fanned out around the county from the corner of State Road 60 and 58th Avenue where the crime occurred, searching for the suspect. Neighboring agencies have also been notified to be on the alert for the suspect and his vehicle.

“Please look at the photos of this suspect,” said Sheriff Deryl Loar in a prepared statement released about the incident. “Somebody knows this man and can help us bring him to justice.”

The description given by authorities is a light-skinned black male, roughly 5 feet 10 inches tall wearing dress pants, a white shirt, tie and a corduroy jacket with dark-colored patches on the elbows. He was described as having short hair, a slightly receding hairline with light facial hair. The photo also shows him wearing dark-rimmed glasses.

The suspect was observed wearing Band-aids on his fingers and driving in an unknown direction in a gray four-door Nissan with black aftermarket rims.

Anyone who sees the suspect or who may know his identity or whereabouts should contact the Indian River Sheriff’s Office at (772) 978-6240.

It is unknown at this time how much was stolen or whether or not anyone in the check-cashing store was injured.
