Dorothy A. Whitney, 100, Vero Beach

Dorothy A. Whitney, 100, of Vero Beach, passed away on April 23, 2015, at Willowbrooke Court at Indian River Estates.

She is survived by her daughters Cynthia (Dr. George) Noble, and Marilyn (Ronald) Gemme; sons

Richard (Mary) Whitney, and Stephen Whitney (Nancy) Whitney; grandchildren Sarah Hoffe, Susan Adams, Geoffrey Noble, Elizabeth Bush, Debbie Brooks, Jay Whitney, David Whitney and Ben Whitney; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Charles A. Whitney.

Whitney was born in Lowell, Mass., to Charles and Mable Littlehale. She attended Salem State Teacher’s College and graduated with a Bachelors’ in Education. She moved to Vero Beach in 1985, coming from Yarmouthport, Mass.

She was a member of the Community Church of Vero Beach.

Whitney volunteered at Federated Church Bloomfield, Conn., Greenwood Community Church, Warwick, R.I., Girl Scouts of America, Bloomfield, Conn., Kent County Hospital, Warwick, R.I., Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, Mass., Cancer Consignment Shop, Yarmouthport, Mass., Indian River Hospital, Vero Beach, Community Church, Vero Beach, and Indian River Estates, Vero Beach.

There was a memorial service held at Indian River Estates.

Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home of Vero Beach is entrusted with arrangements.
